Children's Service

The William Merritt Disabled Living Centre offers a specialist Paediatric Service.
The Paediatric Occupational Therapist offers information, assessment and professional support for children, parents and professionals.
Equipment Displays
A limited range of children's equipment is on permanent display including bathing and toileting equipment, car seats, supportive seating and buggies.
A great variety of products can be brought into the Centre for assessment.

Professional Consultation
Assessment of your equipment needs by our professional Paediatric Occupational Therapist (OT).
Waiting times vary, often dependent upon the availability of companies, but appointments are usually arranged within 3-4 weeks.
William Merritt Disabled Living Centre does not sell anything and local retailers tend not to sell children's products. However, our Paediatric OT can arrange assessments with companies who specialise in children's equipment and details of how to purchase products will then be given to you.
You will be entitled to funding for some equipment from your local Health Authority, Social Services or Wheelchair Services and our Paediatric OT will be able to liaise with the relevant professionals for you.
Car Seat Clinics
Car seat clinics are held at the Centre 4 to 6 times per year.
During the clinic your child's postural needs will be assessed by our Paediatric OT and the stability of the chosen car seat will then be checked by our Car Safety Consultant.
Passenger Access
The assessment will consider how your child can get in and out of the vehicle more easily.
The Paediatric OT will help you to identify an appropriate type of vehicle and/or transfer equipment.
